A wonderful fantasy novel series written by Victoria Schwab which takes readers into a world of parallel londons ruled with magic.
Long ago, the doors between these parallel londons were open and anyone with magic could travel between the worlds. Now the doors have been closed, and only the few chosen ones can travel between Grey London which is a world without magic, Red London which is a world suffused with magic,White london which is a world suffering for magic and Black London which is consumed. No one has stepped into Black London since then, not even Kell. Officially, Kell is a royal messsenger ,carrying letters among the rulers of the three worlds. Unofficially,he is a smuggler who has keen interest in collecting artifacts from the other worlds. It is this keen interest that takes him into a deep trouble , a dangerous relic which should not exist .Its when a wanted Grey london theif ,Lila ,robs this relic ,that they get into a  real problem.
Lila is a winningly unconventional heroine who will rather die in an adventure than live standing still.She never envied the ladies with clinched corsets and abundant skirts, their falsetto laughs and the way they use them.
The mission complicates shades of magic with the lingering dangers of Black London, the moral complexities of Villians and unexpected bond between the main characters. Where Kell is temperate,thoughtfull and extremely powerful,Lila is his opposite in every way, bringing out the unique and fun aspect in the story with every interaction.
The author has set up a brisk plot that confronts darkness but is never overwhelmed by it. Fantasy fans will love this fast paced adventorous story with its amazing magic system with its thoughtful hero and reckless heroine.
